3rd Grade Science Lesson Plans

15.00

Young children are naturally inquisitive.  In order to maintain this creativity, LPL believe it is imperative that such curiosity be fostered throughout the early school years.  Lesson Plan Ladies have created a fact-based, fun science curriculum that follows closely to the plan laid out in The Well-Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise.

During third grade, your child will explore the wonderful world of chemistry. Our weekly lesson plan science format will look like this:

•    Read an excerpt from the science text
•    Look up listed vocabulary words in the science encyclopedia, science text, or dictionary
•    Define and illustrate vocabulary in your Science Notebook
•    Review vocabulary and add new information to definitions
•    Watch an Internet snippet
•    Perform a fun, concept-reinforcing science experiment or activity

LPL Third Grade Science Lesson Plans' introduction to chemistry will allow your child to learn a great deal while enjoying and experiencing the wonderful chemical world around him!

We have formed our LPL Third Grade Science Plans from the following resources: The Usborne Science Encyclopedia, Chemistry: Solids, Liquids, and Gases, and Chemistry Plus: The Alphabet of the Universe.

The Usborne Science Encyclopedia does an excellent job of nourishing curious minds through enjoyable pictures, photographs, and information that exposes children to a variety of science topics. The jam-packed text is written on an early elementary level and designed for easy understanding. Your child will adore LPL’s choice for a high-quality science spine.

Chemistry: Solids, Liquids, and Gases by Penny Norman, Ph.D. does an excellent job of nourishing curious minds through enjoyable pictures, information, and experiments which expose children to basic chemistry. Some experiments from the book include squeezing an egg into a bottle, freezing liquids, and making candles.  The fun text is written on an elementary level and designed for easy understanding. Your child will adore LPL’s choice for an amusing beginning chemistry book.

Chemistry Plus: The Alphabet of the Universe by Penny Norman, Ph.D. is the wonderful sequel to Chemistry: Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Chemistry Plus delves deeper into the wonderful world of chemistry. The difficult concepts are presented in an easy-to-understand way and reinforced by great illustrations and wonderfully exciting experiments. Your child will feel like a true chemist using this book!
