2nd Grade Science Lesson Plans
Young children are naturally inquisitive. In order to maintain this creativity, LPL believe it is imperative that such curiosity be fostered throughout the early school years. Lesson Plan Ladies have created a fact-based, fun science curriculum that follows closely to the plan laid out in The Well-Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise.
During second grade, your child will explore Earth science and astronomy. Science will be divided as follows: one semester of earth science and one semester of astronomy.
We have formed our LPL Second Grade Science Plans from the following resources: The Usborne Children's Encyclopedia, various educational links (provided), and our recommended reading list. Each week, for each topic, your student will read an encyclopedia excerpt, visit an informational internet site (or two!), read an interesting informational or picture book, do a correlating activity, and create a notebook drawing and summary. These fun, multifaceted lessons ensure that your student will have varied experiences in second grade science.
The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia does an excellent job of nourishing curious minds through enjoyable pictures, photographs, and information that exposes children to a variety of science topics. The jam-packed text is written on an early elementary level, designed for easy understanding. Your child will adore LPL’s choice for a high-quality science spine.
LPL Second Grade Science Lesson Plans’ introduction to earth science and astronomy will allow your child to learn a great deal while enjoying and experiencing the wonderful world around him!
