LPL First Grade Phonics and Spelling Lesson Plans are based on the phonics program, Spell to Write and Read (SWR) by Wanda Sanseri. SWR is a multi-sensory approach that allows children to write and spell their way into reading. The program is thorough, systematic, logical, and economical. Your child will delve into the wonderful world of learning the English language by learning to read and write all 70 basic phonograms, symbols that represent particular sounds in the English language. Similarly, your student will continue to memorize 24 out of 29 spelling rules, which will assist him for years to come. He will blend phonograms, which will enable him to successfully write and read over 400 spelling words and other printed material. These mental exercises will continue the process of laying a solid spelling and reading foundation for your child.

Because we understand learning a new phonics program (coupled with lesson plan writing) can be overwhelming, LPL have formulated 36 weeks of easy-to-follow lesson plans for first grade. Included with the LPL First Grade Phonics and Spelling Lesson Plans is a Teacher Reference Book, Assessment Book, spelling test paper, dictation paper, and a set of alphabet cards for your wall. Not included, but highly recommended, is the LPL First Grade Penmanship Book specially designed to follow LPL First Grade Phonics and Spelling Lesson Plans.

Because the pace and content of our lesson plans err on the challenging side, First Grade Phonics and Spelling Lesson Plans are recommended for children ages 6 to 8.
